FoodFight’s Mission: FoodFight is a New York City based nonprofit that offers innovative nutrition education curriculum for high school students and teachers emphasizing critical concepts of food politics, media literacy and nutrition. FoodFight’s goal is to revolutionize the way students and educators think about food and its role in their lives. The fast food and processed food industries spend billions of dollars on advertising, marketing and branding which target our children, who lack the tools and knowledge to make healthy choices and resist the lure of junk food. FoodFight believes that to effect deep and lasting change in students’ eating and buying habits, the NYC public high school system needs a coordinated, comprehensive nutrition education program tailored to fit the diverse ethnic, cultural and economic backgrounds of city students. Working in partnership with our dedicated team of doctors, nutritionists, chefs and the Nutrition Education Program at Teachers College Columbia University, FoodFight designs and implements curriculum, provides teacher training and identifies and connects schools with health and wellness resources. With Dr. Katz and the Turn the Tide Foundation, FoodFight is also developing a program to prepare our students to deliver nutrition education instruction to local elementary schools. Please visit our website www.foodfight.org to learn more about our cutting-edge programming.
